Yorkshire Bagpiper's young admirer
Whether there is a Scottish connection or not, when it comes to providing that special element to the proceedings, one tradition that has been a feature of wedding celebrations in many countries of the world, is a wedding piper. In the Indian subcontinent, much is made of the indigenous piping traditions at weddings to ward off evil spirits. In other areas of the world, the bagpipes are not imbued with such remarkable abilities but are popular in providing entertainment; for dancing; for ceremonial, and generally to enhance the spirits of all who enjoy such happy occasions.
In the Scottish tradition, there is a fairly well defined sequence of events in which the bagpipes usually become involved. However, where the  occasion demands, there are ever more new and unusual ideas in which a piper can play a role. It is certainly the case that many couples wish to follow tradition on their special day and with the guidance of an experienced piper, find both the format and the ceremonial, quite a comforting structure through which they can feel at ease with the hectic demands of the day.
